EL ESCORIAL-by Carmen Merello

EL ESCORIAL

El Escorial is a very old-fashioned and also a  touristic place at any season of the year. The environment is as calm as a Sunday at 9 a.m. From outside El Escorial appears more like a fortress than a monastery. El Escorial is located on the outskirts of the city of Madrid.  It is constituted by a well designed monastery, which is famous for its symmetrical design, enormous gardens which will suck you in and you will want to look at them for hours upon hours.
El Escorial is such a popular place. Tourists go there and visit the fascinating monastery which is very inspirational. It was built in 1563-1584 by King Philip II of Spain to commemorate his victory over the French at the battle of San Quentin. As I said before it has a calm atmosphere which is an advantage for those who want to get away and rest.

I recommend it because is a very welcome chance to disconnect from the graffiti streets, and the horrible chaos of Madrid and also because normally tourists are pleasantly surprised by this idyllic trip.
