CAMP WATITOH-by Iria Sánchez de Diego

Last summer I went to the “Camp Watitoh” that you can only describe it with one word AMAZING. It is located in Becket Massachusetts (USA).
A part of it is learning a lot of English but I also have met really great people, not only the girls of my age also the counselors, because they were very open and friendly.
Now I would like to tell you a little bit about the distribution of the camp. Basically the camp was divided in 2 parts: Boys camp and Girls camp, where we had the HC that is where we met with the girls director (Crissty) and with the rest of the girls. In the middle of the two parts you could find the mess hall that is where we ate. Going down to the mess hall you could see the waterfront where we used to do lake activities like waterskiing, sailing, canoeing… also a water trampoline.
The football fields, tennis courts and a special space for archery were next to the girls’ camp. At the end of the fields there were stairs, if you go up and turn to the left you could find the gym and a softball field (softball: it is a sport like baseball but with a bigger ball) .On the right side, the sports center, with a climb wall and ropes.
At the end of the camp there was a big place where we used to do the competitions between girls and boys, the games and some evenings activities.

Well I am going to explain to you a normal day at camp:
We woke up at 8:00 with the bugles sound and then we went to the HC (in pijama of course) where Crissy explained to us the activities for the day.  In front of the mess hall, there was a big American flag and we lined up (that is basically listen the American anthem and see how they raise up the flag). When the flag was totally up we had to go to the mess hall to take breakfast. Each day there was different breakfast, like pancakes, waffles or bagels. At the mess hall you had to sit with people of your bunk and the food was served by the waiters (the boys between 16-17). At the end of the breakfast we returned to our bunks and we had to clean up because after 30 minutes some counselors used to come to our bunks to check if everything was okay and

give us a mark. And at the end of the week, if you had achieved 10 points every day, you earned going to Lucky’s, the best ice-cream shop.
After the revision we used to do activities that changed depending on the day for example the first activity was waterskiing, then we had 10 minutes to change the swimsuit to sports clothes because you had land activity (softball, soccer, hockey...) At the end we had lunch (the best hour in the whole camp) we had an hour of free time that I spent in “Spanish siesta “that is how they used to called it.
When we were completely recovered, we had the hobby hour that meant that you could choose any activity for an hour, then we went to general swim for 2 hours that you could do whatever you want like sunbathing in Alcatraz (a wood platform in the middle of the lake) but there was only one rule: you had to stay into the water. After this we had another land activity and an hour of shower then we had to do line up again because they are very patriotic; while the flag was going down. Then we went to the mess hall to dinner. At the end we had free time (that is doing anything you want) the best part were the evening activities with the boys or just girls depending on the activity.
And finally we went to sleep, and the next day was exactly the same except the very important days like the 4th of July, Watitoh banquet, empire day….
Apart of staying at the camp we had other activities like going to the theatre or intercamps that is: you went to another camp for the whole day and you played with other camps, and also a lot of other activities.
So if you are looking for an incredible experience in another country I really recommend you to go because it was one of the best months of my life.

MADRID FASHION WEEK-by Carmen Peña

FASHION WEEK
I'm going to talk about the Fashion Week, because I have been there twice and I think it's a very interesting event to talk about.
The first time that I spend at the Fashion Week was last year, (between February and March). It was really fun, I went thanks to one of my friends, Cristina, because her cousin works there or something like that. We had been watching an amazing parade of Teresa Helbig (one of the best designers who had gone), the clothes were really classy, smart and sophisticated, and we really liked it.
Afterwards we saw the parade, we were around small stalls, of make-up, clothes, art...
And also we met lots of actors and models, I think this was the best part because I really had fun seeing them on television and then in person.
So, I returned home very happy after this amazing experience.
The second time that I have been there, was this year, about one month ago.
It was similar than the first time but we had been watching a parade with really tacky and outrageus clothing.
They were dressed down at the bees, at least for my opinion, but I could understand that some people liked it.
I didn't remember the designer's name, I'm not to interested in knowing it.
Even so, it was a really fun day with my friends, and also I recommend you to visit the Fashion Week on IFEMA next year!

Regards,
Carmen Peña.

MY FIRST STEPS IN THE SNOW-by Celia Toledo

My first steps in the snow

At Easter I'll go skiing in Sierra Nevada, Granada.
This time I'll only go with my father and my cousins. We have gone several times and this time my mother is not with us because she doesn't like and enjoy it.
The first time was fun. I was small and had a blast. I went with my family to the ski resort of Cerler, in Huesca.
When we arrived, we signed up for classes where the teachers taught us to stand on skis.
It was the first time we went. It was a week of the most intense and fun where as good beginners, we learned to slide down slopes with slope and above all to make the wedge to stop. That's the way we learned.
The next trip we went to a ski resort of Formigal-Panticosa, also in the province of Huesca. Several valleys attached form a complex of huge tracks.
On this trip I had a lot of fun because it was much better to go on skis and thanks to the teachers I managed to greatly improve my technique.
I lived the experience to the fullest, down long green tracks, blue and red runs, enjoying the scenery, while still remembering, they give me vertigo.
My third experience was at the station of La Covatilla, in the Sierra de Béjar (Salamanca) was very small but had a lovely view, plus we did not have to wait a long queue to climb.
And so we spend our days of Eastern in the snow, this time where, besides fun and enjoying the snow, my father and I enjoyed nature.

After spending this holiday season with the skis on, it's time to return to the daily routine, but as we travel, I think it will end but another adventuren begins.

MEXICO-by Emilia Ruiz-Manjón

Mexico

Today I want to talk about the time I went with my family to Mexico. We went there at the beginning of June 2012.
We went to the capital, Mexico DF. We were staying at a hotel in the centre of the city. I remember that a thing that really shocked me was that there were many soldiers on the streets carrying weapons and that there was also a lot of poverty on the streets.

The first monument we went to see was the Zócalo situated by the cathedral of Mexico city, the National Palace and by a huge flag.
In that area there are lots of churches.

The next day we went to the church of Guadalupe where we saw the famous cape. I'm going to explain this miracle because I find it very interesting. Really long time ago there was a native American called Juan Diego, he one day received the visit of the Virgin of Guadalupe, she told him to go see the bishop and tell him that he had seen the Virgin. The bishop wouldn't believe him so he showed him the roses the virgin Guadalupe had told the indian to get even though it wasn't the period for roses. When he was getting the roses from the cape the Virgin showed up with. That cape is the one in the church of Guadalupe. There have been many tests to prove the miracle but I'm just going to tell some of them, one explains that when we put a light near the eyes of the virgin in the picture the pupils get smaller and when we move away the light the pupils expand just like a human eye. Another proof that shows that this is a miracle is that the colors that make the picture aren't really on the textile in fact they are floating in the air.

Other day we went to see Xochimilco where I had so much fun because the main attraction is to go on little boats along the river while you see the landscape, you can also buy food and many things because there are people going around in other boats selling things, and the funniest thing is that you can "pay" the Mariachis for a little time to sing you some songs. I remember I did that and we told them to sing the famous song: Cielito lindo.

I also saw the pyramids of Teotihuacan that were really impressive. I got to the top of the tallest one, the pyramid of the sun. I ended up being very tired.

Then, after some amazing days in Mexico we went back to the USA.

TO POW OR NOT TO POW-by Elena Velasco

TO POW OR NOT TO POW

This ski season started later than expected. Weather was really mild at the early  winter. No POW at all in early December. Only some packed one at late December,  just for Christmas.

But in late January, skiers happiness has arrived!
48 hours snowing without a rest and this  was the resulting landscape:

Impressive, isn't it ? Please, see the detail here:

I would not like to be below that. Well, perhaps in a hot summer day!

What a difference. My rocker skis were anxious and wanting to eat all that Powder. Have a look at this groomers:

Is this Austria? No, just the Pirinean range, and just closer.

February has been a very good  powder month that we have really enjoyed. But now the best news: forecast for this week advises about 2 m pack of snow in a couple of days. Fortunately, 2015 is going to be one of the very best Pow seasons to remember.
