PROM TRIP: MERIDA-by Marta Azcoitia

Prom trip: Merida
This year with the school we went one week before Easter to a trip in which we visited different Spanish and Portuguese cities.
Merida is one of the cities we visited. Located in Badajoz, it is very famous for the ancient roman ruins that have been found on it, this is because it was an important roman city named Augusta.
Augusta Emerita was founded in 25 a.c. for the veterans soldiers of V Alaudae and X Gemina by Octavio Augusto. It became one of the most important cities of Hispania as it had lots of commodities and it was the capital of Lusitania.

Merida’s theater and amphitheater are the most famous monuments of the city. We had the chance to visit these spectacular ruins and learn about them. What makes them very special is that they are almost perfectly conserved although lot of people and years have passed over them.

MY PROM TRIP-by ManuFP

MY PROM TRIP-By: ManuFP
Hello! Today I am going to make a summary about the Prom Trip. The Prom Trip is the experience that all secondary students of Jesús María wait for. The last 23rd of April we started the Trip with the tutors and co-tutors of 4º ESO: Beatriz, Maite, Aurelio and Manuel. It was the best trip I have ever done because we visited many amazing places with my classmates. Now I am going to explain the different towns that we have visited:

GUADALUPE: The first stop was Guadalupe that is a town located in the Province of Cáceres. It wasn´t the first time that I visited Guadalupe, when I was 9 years old I went with my family to Valdecaballeros which is near there. But this time I could visit the Monastery of Santa María Guadalupe which is one of the most important ones in the country for its architecture and Greco´s artwork. It was declared World Heritage Site by UNECO in 1993. Then we had lunch and celebrated Felipe´s birthday.

TRUJILLO: At 18.30 we stopped in Trujillo, an amazing place erected on a big granite rock, where we did a guided tour. We walked through the streets in the historic quarter and we saw the statue and Francisco Pizarro´s house too who is one of the most important conquerors of Amercia in the fifteenth century. It was pouring so we finished the tour very quickly.

CÁCERES: We arrived in Cáceres and left our luggage at, in my opinion, the best Hotel of the trip, Barceló V Centenario, then we had for dinner pasta, burgers and fries. The next day we had breakfast at 9:00: scrambled eggs, bacon, coffee…

Then we visited Cáceres, which is a very beautiful town full of history and ancient monuments like Palacio de Carvajal o the Santa Marías Concathedral, for this reason the walled city has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I could never imagine that Caceres was so amazing.

Once finished the tour, we went to have lunch and then, watching the TV news, we found out about the horrible plane crash in France with several Spanish passengers. After it, we travelled to Coimbra, Portugal, we crossed the border so we couldn’t use our mobile phones for whatsapp, facebook or sending email. After arriving to our travel destination the bus broke down and Javi, the other bus driver helped us to fix it.

COIMBRA: At 19:15 we stopped in Coimbra and visited the old town but this time without a tour (great!), My friends and I (Felipe, Gon, Ina and Juan) went to the top of the city to visit the most amazing places in that City like Coimbra´s university or the typical buildings. At 20:30 we came back to the Emidio Navarro Square where we meet an alcoholic person who disturbed us. We came back to the bus and then we went to the hotel. There we unpacked, had dinner and had free time. I sat on a bench overlooking the whole city at night. At 8:00 we had breakfast and took the bus to travel to our destination, Lisbon

LISBON: Finally we arrived in our destination. Lisbon is the capital of Portugal, it is one of the most amazing cities I have ever visited. There we made a guided tour but inside the bus with a lovely girl, she showed us the most extraordinary places of Lisbon like Torre de Belem which is by the Tajo river, where the river becomes wider and finishes in the Atlantic Ocean. We also visited the Plaza del Comercio and the25th of may bridge which connected Lisbon with Almada. When the guided tour finished I bought some souvenirs for my Family like a cup, the Flag of Portugal, and 4 Pasteles de Belem boxes, that is the best cake I have ever eaten. We had lunch and went to Mérida

MÉRIDA: We arrived at 21:00 to Mérida and we had free time. At 8:30 we had breakfast and visited the Roman Theater and Amphitheater. This time the tour guide was Manuel, that in my opinion was the clearest in his explanation. When the tour was done we went to the bus and we returned to Madrid… (nooooo…..)

MADRID: It turned out, in my opinion, the most awaited moment for the teachers but the saddest time for the students, the return to Madrid… In this time I was with Beatriz and Maite and we talked about the school my sisters and a lot of different topics like the my opinion of the prom trip. We also talked with Lucia and Belen. Then we arrived in Madrid and picked up my luggage. After saying goodbye I came back home very quickly to explain to my parents the amazing prom trip that we had done.

CONCLUSSION: The prom trip has been my best high school experience. I recommend for future students to make the same journey! I have learnt that the most important thing is not where you go it is just who you go with…! I would also like to apologize to the teachers for our behavior.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, AND SEE YOU SOON!

THE PROM TRIP-by Catalina Goirena

THE PROM TRIP

Months ago we went on our Prom Trip as every year the students of 4th ESO do. This year we insisted that the trip would be out of Spain. We finally got to go to Portugal , specifically to Coimbra and Lisbon.

But the trip this year was a little different, not only because we left Spain, because we made a path that began in Guadalupe and ended in Merida. On the first day we went to Guadalupe, Trujillo and Caceres. The second day we visited Caceres and went to Coimbra. The third day we went way to Lisbon, visited Lisbon and then went to Merida . The fourth day we visited Merida and went to Oropesa and from there returned to Madrid.

For me these four days out of school with all my course were awesome, but the best part of the trip was the bus as it was where we spent more time together, listening to music, talking, playing ...
On this trip I was able to improve the relationship with some of my colleagues but also meet others that I had not been involved with before.
In my opinion this type of trips should continue to be made , because they are a fantastic experience because while you get to see different places, you meet people and have a great time.

THE BLOG-by Gonzalo Cabeza

THE BLOG

This year, Miriam and Beatriz had an idea for us: to create a blog written by the students. The idea is that everyone of us needs to hand in a piece of write about the topic that everyone prefers two days prior to the month day that corresponds your class number.
In my opinion it is a fantastic idea that allows you to express a bit about whatever does catch your mind that month. And it is also interesting to read in the blog what others have written about.
But the best of all is that by writing the blog you can raise your mark! So for example if you had a four point seven, and you had handed in every single one of your blogs quite well, Beatriz would take it into account in your average.

So I think, that it will be a good idea to continue with this activity in the following years.

4th ESO PROM TRIP-by Leyre de la Torre

MY PROM TRIP

It all started the 23rd of March when we arrived from Madrid to Cáceres, while we were going to Cáceres we stopped in two beautiful sites: GUADALUPE: we visited the monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe where we saw some traditional costumes that  priests wore in that time; we also saw some paintings and status that were given to the monastery by kings or famous people of different periods of time. And of course we saw and kissed the virgin.

VIRGIN OF GUADALUPE

TRUJILLO: the town is famous because of how many medieval and renaissance buildings like the house of Francisco Pizarro or the church of Santa María that was built on the 13th .

PIZARRO'S HOUSE

The second day we went from Cáceres to Coimbra (Portugal). In the morning we visited Cáceres and at the afternoon we had free time in Coimbra.
CÁCERES: it is one of the cities of Spain with most examples of archaeological discovers like the settlements since prehistoric times. Cáceres also has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

CAVE OF MALTRAVIESO

The third day we went from Coimbra to Lisbon to end up in Mérida. LISBON: is one of the oldest cities in the world. Julius Caesar appointed it as a municipium called Felicitas Julia.  It was ruled by
a series of Germanic tribes from the 5th century and in 1147, the Crusaders made the city a major political, economic and cultural place of Portugal.

BELEM TOWER

The last day we went from Mérida to Madrid. MÉRIDA:  Is the capital of Extremadura. And it is a really touristic place because of it archaeological ensemble, that has been recognize as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1993.

MY TIME AT SCHOOL-by Ignacio Ruigómez

For my last peace of work from this year, I am going to speak about the last years I have passed at school. My years in  secondary. Basically I’m going to write a few experiences, how I performed each year and my relationship with some of the teachers
The first year of secondary I was really nervous because a new period in my life was just going to start. Loads of new subjects, and the ones that we already had were going to become very important and our worst nightmares, but as soon as I changed my mind to thinking that everything was possible, I realized that secondary is not made just for bright minds. From my point of view the subject that made my spent most of my time was art, with all its precision.
In the next second years everything happened very fast, but I have really good memory: we built a group of friends and we started going out at night but if you think these days  the time we had to be at home is now the time we start parties. Another good experience is the exchange we had with the school South Dartmoor . My pen pal was really friendly and his family was really helpful with everything and we had so good experience. In the summer he invited me for a week in a knapping north inland.
This last year is being the hardest one because we are going to pass to Bachillerato and we need to be prepared.

The relationship with the teachers hasn’t been brilliant but with some exceptions I’m very  happy with the teachers I have had  .

MY FUTURE-by María Rico

MY FUTURE

My name is Maria, and I am 16 years old. I was born in Madrid and I think I will be living here the rest of my life. I am a person with lots of projects for my future.
I think for me, choosing the career that I will do, will be one of the hardest decisions of my life. I am very concerned about the consequences of the choice I will make and it scares me to regret it. I am a person who thinks everything twice and I can hardly decide very fast. I think sometimes we should think a little more about this but it is very difficult for me.
I am a very organized person and I consider myself also a responsible person.
I am in a very difficult situation because maybe for two days want to study something but suddenly I begin to doubt.
I hope to find the right career that allows me to have a job that I like in the future and will allow me to have a good life.
I am very confused, so last Sunday I decided to do an Internet quiz about what the career could be that I am going to study and these were the results:

The category where I had the highest percentage were Health Science , with careers such as biology, anatomy, chemistry and others.
The truth is that I have always liked the subject of biology and also I used to get good grades but I don’t know if I could have a future dedicated to something related to Health Sciences.
I'm honestly quite surprised because I did not think that something related to biology could get out as an option. The truth is that I'm quite confused because lately I have decided to go for a career such as economy or business while it is true that I have never disliked biology. The problem is this: I like biology and I'm good at it, but I am not really attracted by the future that this involves and on the other hand, I like slightly less economy but for the future I think it's best for me.
