A
review of the film “Coach Carter”
In
this entry I am going to talk about one the top ten movies I have
ever seen. A film that fills you with lots of different emotions such
as sadness, courage and thrill.
Coach
Carter
is a drama film made in 2005, based on real events.
In
this movie Ken Carter (played by Samuel
L. Jackson)
accepts the job as a basketball coach in Richmond High School. The
players on this team do not take their studies seriously, and some
even end up selling drugs on the streets.
The
coach makes his players sign a serious contract in which they must
take the training sessions seriously as well as perform well at
school. He does these by strict punishment and attitude. He drives a
losing team into a 14-0 match-winning team.
Although
this is a very high accomplishment Coach Ken Carter is not happy
because the players are failing their subjects. He decides to lock up
the school gym, even during games. He says that he will open it again
as soon as he sees an improvement on all of the players’ grades.
After
a lot of hard work the players pass all of the exams with flying
colours and the gym is reopened, allowing the team to resume practice
and competition.
The
team wins a spot into a very important tournament in which, although
they lose in the final, many of the players have good enough
statistics to win basketball scholarships in different universities.
Overall I highly recommend this movie because it shows people that if you
work hard, you can accomplish anything. It also shows how sport
practice can keep young people from the streets.
