Cáceres, San Jorge

This is San Jorge's place.  San Jorge is located in the heart of the walled city of Cáceres. It's framed by the church of San Francisco Javier, the house of Becerra, a group of tourist shops and tower of the Palace of the Golfines de Abajo.

The Plaza de San Jorge is chaired by the Church of the Preciosa Sangre at the top of a staircase, at whose feet is the statue of  St. George in a niche.

It is a bronze sculpture of 1.30 meters, made by Jose Rodriguez in 1963. It is an equestrian statue, depicting St. George with a spear in his right hand, fighting the dragon that lies at the foot of horse.
St. George is the patron saint of Cáceres and is one of the most famous sculptures in the city.
The statue is famous as a unique symbol of courage and fearlesness.
