Today I am going to talk about an artist whom I and many others consider the best artist who’s ever set foot on planet earth:
Michael Joseph Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana on August 29, 1958, and dedicated his entire life to entertaining audiences . His father, Joe Jackson, had been a guitarist, but he gave up his musical ambitions following his marriage to Katherine Jackson. Together, they encouraged their growing family's musical interests at home.
By the early 1960s, the older boys Jackie, Tito and Jermaine had begun performing around the city; by 1964, Michael and Marlon joined in.
Soon Michael’s talent came out with his unique singing and dancing qualities and became the dominant voice of the Jackson 5,he spent all his
childhood giving concerts.I would say he lived his infancy as an adult and I suppose these limitations marked him for the rest of his life.
Michael’s solo success was inevitable and by 1980 he had become infinetely more popular than his brotherly group. His records sales consistently went
up culminating with the biggest selling album of all times “Thriller” in 1982, despite the fact that Thriller had been hugely expensive to produce at that time reaching 750,000 USD. Only MTV dared to produce it and in less than a year it became the best selling album of all times. The 9 songs of the album reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.In the 1984 Grammy awards ceremony it won 8 Grammys, something unique in the history of music.
After Thriller’s immense success his career started to go down a bit and five years later in 1987 he published “Bad”,from which 5 songs were top 1 in the Billboard of the USA.
Michael’s life was always surrounded by rumors connected to his rejection to accept his skin color and suffered from a disease called Vitiligo which triggered a depigmentation process he underwent
later on.He was also accused of molesting children several times in his life and though he never went to jail there were shadows of doubt about these issues which still remain today.
Despite all the above mentioned Michael holds some records which I would like to remark:
He has been credited as the artist supporting more charitable organizations, more than 39.
Financed the most expensive music video ever “Scream”,about 7 million USD.
Holds 372 recognized awards.
Following his death in 2009,he became the artist selling more records of all times.Even releasing two post-mortem albums.
His concert film and documentary “This is it” is the top-grossing film of all time. The posthumous movie has earned over 260 million USD worldwide to date.
Summarizing,I have to say that despite been a very contradictory and peculiar character Michael
has ,in my opinion, been the most talented and prolific artist of all times so far.He could dance, sing, compose, prepare his performances and do everything himself. Most people in general only regard to Thriller and Billie Jean as his most successful works but Michael’s career was full great and magnificent pieces far better than those
and I am sure they will be remembered forever as he was a transgressor in all terms during his life
