PROM TRIP JESUS MARIA SCHOOL-by Bosco Juliussen

Prom trip Jesus Maria School 2015.
We did our prom trip in March this year by bus and it included visits to :Caceres, Trujillo, Coimbra, Lisbon, Merida, Oropesa and back to Madrid. I`m going to tell you about the stop in Merida on the 25th and 26th of March. Merida is the capital of Extremadura. After lunch in Lisbon we took off and we arrived around 8pm at our hotel. The trip  was really comfortable, but was quite long. When we arrived, we had a wonderful dinner at the hotel before check in. The four star hotel was quite good and had a characteristic design like as an amphitheatre. I shared room with Alejandro.
The next day after breakfast, we visited the most important part of Merida. When we entered the historical part, Manuel, our latin teacher, guided us around. First we visited the roman theatre, that was constructed by Old Rome in the Roman city Emerita Augusta, the capital of Lusitania, now called Merida. The theatre was in real good condition. In the old times, it was used for presenting dramatic works and comedies. Now, during the summer, they show similar works.
Later on we visited the ruined Roman amphitheatre which was constructed in year 8 BC. When the Christians arrived they started to use the stones from the amphitheatre to construct their churches because they didn´t like roman games like the gladiator fights. Recently the archeologists have found a fossa in the middle of the amphitheatre and it is said to have been used to keep the animals before they were going into the arena. The historical part is now a Unesco protected area and has a protection wall around. After the tour we continued the trip to Oropesa.

To me this was one of the most interesting part of the trip and I would recommend everybody that visits Merida to see this old part.
