CHILDHOOD IN NIGERIA COMPARED TO SPAIN-by Begoña González

NIGERIA

Childhood in Nigeria compared to Spain.
I think life in Nigeria must be very different from Spain, first of all because it’s a poor country and they don’t have the same oportunities as in Spain.
In Spain family life is very important for children so that they can grow up in a safe atmosphere while in Nigeria children don’t have that opportunity and many don’t have a family life.
In Nigeria not all children go to school. The main reason is that there are not many schools and they haven’t got enough money to build them. That’s why we are trying to help them, we think that it’s important to have an education.
In Spain all children go to school because it is obligatory from 6 to 16 years of age, so in the future they can apply for a job, have a salary and form a family of their own.
Girls in Nigeria don’t have the same opportunities as boys and this doesn’t happen in Spain because we all have the same rights and we are all treated as equals. A proof of this is that most children that don’t go to school are girls.
In Spain children are very protected by the law, in Nigeria people can’t do a lot to protect their children.
Nigeria has many illnesses and diseases like ebola, and there are not enough vaccines to vaccinate all the children and that is why so many children die when they are babies as in Spain all children are vaccinated against many diseases when they are babies.
Another difference is that in Nigeria, children are not well fed becuase there is no food and money to buy food and in Spain all they children have a very healthy diet.
When I finish school I want to go there as a volunteer to help these children and make them happy because I think they would be grateful for all the volunteers help.
