THE GOLD MEDAL NO ONE EXPECTED
Last September the European Basketball championship
was held in France.
The clear favorite teams for winning the European
gold medal were France and Serbia. Nobody believed that Spain had any chance to
win the European gold medal.
The Spanish coach had to chosen the players but it was
very difficult for Spain to build up a competitive team because most of our NBA
players were injured and couldn´t participate in the tournament.
Finally the team was made up based on the talent of the
best Spanish basketball player, Pau Gasol. He is 35 years old but his age isn´t
important. The essential role of this player is to lead the rest of the
players, maintain the spirit of fighting and enjoy playing basketball all together
as a team. And… of course he did!!
Spain started losing the first match but step by step
with sacrifice, effort and hope they improved their game and started winning
matches. Suddenly Spain beat France! Spanish supporters couldn´t believe we were
in the final. Many players of the Spanish team were injured and very tired but
they concentrated for the match, and… the gold medal was in their pockets.
