NIGERIA
Hi! In this
post I am going to talk about Nigeria, but in a different way.
Here there
are some curiosities about Nigeria, maybe they aren’t really useful but I’m
sure you didn’t know them all!
·
This
country is called Nigeria because of the third largest river in Africa, the
Niger River.
·
Nigeria’s
got one of the fastest growing economies of the sub-Saharan Africa part.
·
This
country has one of the most elevated taxes in the world of twins-birth.
·
It
is the most populated country in Africa and one of the largest producers of
petroleum in the continent.
·
The
highest diversity of butterflies in the world is found near to Calabar,in Cross
River (in Nigeria).
·
The
drill primate, one of the most endangered species of mammals in Africa is
exclusively found in his natural state in Nigeria and the country next to
it Camerun.
And now I will tell you about some traditional dishes of this country:
Jollof
rice: well, this meal is popular around all of the continent, but in Nigeria it's
eaten very often, so that we could say it is typical from there. This stew has a lot
of varieties ,depending on the locations in Nigeria but the basic ingredients
are usually rice, tomato, green pepper, onion and salt. It is often fried with
coconut oil.
Maafe:It
is like a stew cooked with peanut sauce
and poultry or meat .There is not a basic recipe so people do it in many
different ways.It is very popular because peanut is
a very common nut in Africa so it is easy to find the ingredients.
Suya:It
is a skewer of meat ,fish or poultry cooked with tankora,a mix of spices that
includes peanut,cayenne,onion powder,jinger and paprika.
·
Moin
moin:it is a kind of pudding, it first appeared in Nigeria in the Yoruba’s
tribe in the south of the country. The ingredients of the pudding changes from different combinations of peppers and onions.(normally it has chilly). It is
served with meat, boiled eggs or sardines.
·
Chin
chin:it is a fried sweet snack ,popular in Nigeria and the rest of occidental
Africa. It is like a sweet and hard donut cooked with eggs and wheat flour with
a little bit of nutmeg.
Despite being a very common snack,it is also a good aperitif for social
events,such as weddings.
I hope you found this interesting!
