MY TRIP TO NEW YORK-by Bosco Juliussen

My trip to New York

I want to tell you about my experience of going to Manhattan, New York City – also called   the Big Apple. I made a trip during the Christmas holiday last year together with my familiy.
We flew from the Barajas airport in Madrid directly to JFK International airport in New York in the USA. We stayed on the plane for about 6 hours. A car took us from the airport to the hotel, that was overlooking Central Park. The hotel had 39 floors and my room was on the 24th floor.

On the arrival day, in the afternoon, close to Times Square we bought a New York Pass that allows you to use the tourist buses in New York for one week. You can jump on and off as you wish. Also the pass gives you a discount to several museums.

On the same evening of our arrival, we visited Midtown by bus. First stop was Grand Central Station, the central railway station for long trips. Besides catching trains, there are also several bars and restaurants and some shops in the station.

By bus we passed a lot of famous shops on the most famous shopping street called Fifth Avenue. We passed the theaters on Broadway and the famous Radio City Hall.

Later we walked over to one of the most famous buildings in New York, the 103 floor high Empire State building. From the Empire State building you have a really beautiful view over the city.

On the second day we jumped on the bus at Times Square and went to Downtown were we visited Chinatown and Little Italy. Chinatown is famous for Chinese food and it is like being in China, all the shops and restaurants are run by chinese people and all the names are in chinese. There were also some Buddhist temples there. Little Italy is more famous for desserts and many people have dinner in Chinatown and later they go for dessert in Little Italy. Little Italy is mainly run by italian immigrants. Then we took a boat to the Statue of Liberty and it was really exciting and wonderful to be so next to this famous statue which represents so much to the New Yorkers.

On the way back the boat passed by Ellis Island which was the entry port to New York for immigrants in the old days. It was raining a lot that day and we received raincoats on the bus and we used them also on the boat. In the evening we went to a theatre on Broadway as we had tickets to the Phantom of the Opera. It was fantastic. On the third day we had a walk through Central Park and later we went to see the big Christmas tree next to Rockefeller Center. On the Rockefeller Center Plaza there is also a famous ice skating place where the public can go skating. It was quite fun.

We went to Christmas mass in The St. Patricks Cathedral the same day. In the evening we had a nice Christmas Evening Dinner at a restaurant Uptown not far from our hotel.

On the fourth day we visited the American Museum of Natural History. The museum is big and you need to spend time there to see all the interesting things. Afterwards we continued with the bus through Harlem and ended up having the Christmas Day Dinner at another restaurant Uptown.

Outside the restaurant  one of these big limousines that are used a lot in New York was parked, in addition to the New York taxis called Yellow Cabs.

The next day we continued to Costa Rica and I will tell you more about this fantastic country in another blog.
