NIGERIA , POLITICAL HISTORY-by Marta Aguilar

NIGERIA , POLITICAL HISTORY

Also called Federal Republic of Nigeria.
It is a country placed in western Africa, in the area of the Gulf of Guinea. This country is composed by 36 Federal Conditions and one Federal District. Its capital is Abuya and the most popular city is Lagos. Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa and the seventh most populated in the world. Now I am gone to talk about the political history of Nigeria:
• In 1966 there were two coups d’état.
• In 1967 there was another coup d’état, the difference with the previous ones was that this one was the bloodiest.
• In 1977 they wrote a new constitution and the first elections were celebrated in 1979.
• In 1983 the power passed on to the militarily, their power had ended in 1993. The following elections were in 1999, that is to say, 16 years after the last elections, and Olusegun Obansajo was elected president. The success of the democratic dream in Nigeria presents some doubts since the murder of the secretary of justice, Ball Ige, in 2007.
