Madrid is the capital and the biggest city of Spain.  It`s avery old city but there are also many modern buildings,districts, shops and restaurants. The Gate of the Sun (Puerta del Sol) is the most famous place of Madrid. It is at the 0 kilometer line, which is exactly the centre of Spain. On December 31, at 24:00, the clock at the gate of the sun strikes twelve chimes that give rise to the New Year. There, there are also the Bear and the Madroño, which are Madrid's symbols.

The “Plaza Mayor” is 150 years old. During Christhmas time, it is filled with stalls and tourists. Many families have take their children to the Plaza Mayor during this time. It's also known because Ana Botella gave a speach during the Olympic games, where she said “relaxing cup of café con leche in Plaza Mayor”.

The Santiago Bernabeu is in the centre of Madrid. It's the stadium where the football team, Real Madrid, plays. By some, it is considered the best football team in the world. In Madrid, play two big football teams: Real Madrid and At. Madrid.
